Green Office Checklist
Paper
- Printer can print two-sided documents and accept paper with print on one side.
- Photocopies use both sides of a sheet of paper.
- Memos are e-mailed, posted or circulated rather than a copy produced for each person.
- Post-it fax notes or a reusable sheet are used for fax cover notes.
- There is a newspaper and magazine exchange programme in the office.
- Presentation software or dry erase boards are used for presentations rather than flip charts and handouts.
- Undated, erasable wall calendars are used.
Energy & Water
- Taps are shut off and leaks reported promptly.
- Energy and water audits are conducted regularly.
- Lights are turned off at the end of the business day.
- Office equipment turned off when not in use.
Recycle and Compost
- Recyclable materials are recycled.
- A compost programme has been put in place.
Reuse
- Mechanical pencils, refillable pens, refillable tape dispensers and reusable coffee filters are utilized.
- Lunch is brought in reusable containers.
- Packaging supplies are reused where possible and are out of recyclable materials.
- Reusable mugs, plates and cutlery are used in the lunchroom.
- Paper is shredded and used for animal bedding or packaging material.
- A plain paper fax is used.
- Attempts are made to repair broken items before they are discarded.
Attitudes and Practice
- Set-up a Re-Use area in the workplace.
- When you no longer have use for an item place it in the Re-Use area or pass it onto a co-worker instead of discarding it.
- Be a leader. Support Green Initiatives.
- Read environmental tips on notice boards.
- Share environmental tips with co-workers.
